Most of the time when you seek help, the focus of your therapist tends to be on a specific ailment such as back or hip pain, which may be important to you, but the bigger picture is how you stay active into the long term.

The Better Movement Program was originally designed for people who have a neurological condition, such as following a stroke or Parkinson’s Disease, but is useful for anyone who finds that they are are having difficulty walking or are getting stiff.

It  is not a one size fits all prescription, it is tailored program to your specific requirements. It is however built on a system that follows a series of the following steps:

  1. The physical ability to move your joints and muscles
  2. the ability to hold yourself upright (postural control)
  3. the ability to control how you shift your weight so that you can get out of chair or walk (balance)
  4. and the ability to perform complex activities (planning, learning and coordinating new tasks).

For ten years we have been running rehabilitation programs for individuals who have physical problems, balance problems or neurological problems affecting their movement. We have been measuring degrees of impairment with a tool called computerised posturogaphy which measures movement, and from this we have been able to design very specific and effective rehabilitation.

From our years of data collection, we have formalised a program that is built on specific steps and milestones that builds back into your nervous system the building blocks of movement. The sequencing is important, hence why we have formalised it into a specific program.

The real key to Better Movement, is understanding where the major roadblock is. 

Is it muscle and joint stiffness? Or an issue of balance and postural control which results in difficulty shifting your weight, or is it a more complex problem involving how you control your movement?

We use a tool called computerised posturography which enables us to measure the efficiency of these different aspects and create highly targeted treatment designed to get you back on your feet.

The First Step Is To Have Your Balance Tested

Once we’ve tested your balance, we will know straight away if this program is suitable for you, and the analysis that we get enables us to efficiently target your particular postural characteristics.

How we control our centre of balance is crucial for all the things we take for granted, like getting out of chair, walking and more complex activities like lifting children or playing tennis.

Most people have no idea how stable they are or how efficiently they move, or even if they are at risk of having a fall.

Having an objective postural analysis and your balance measured, changes your perception of what posture is, and why it’s important to your health. It also provides us with the objective data we require to manufacture a rehabilitation program for you and to measure your progress.

Posture is about balance. It is the ability to manage the tensions placed on our body by the effects of gravity in any given moment by shifting our weight in the most efficient manner.

Join Us For a Free Introductory Class

Not sure if you need to take this program? Join us for an introduction to posture class. The first Wednesday evening of every month, we run an hour long class where we teach the fundamentals of posture.

We explain what posture is, and why it is fundamental to moving well, maintaining good balance and preventing yourself from getting back pain.

By the end of the evening you will have experienced this in your body.

You will have this knowledge to take away with you rather than information.
